How Halden Heating and Air Torrance Was Born in Torrance

We didn’t pick Torrance by looking at a map and pointing. We picked it because we’d spent years driving its streets, walking its neighborhoods, and listening to homeowners in Old Torrance, Seaside, and Walteria describe the same frustration: they’d book an HVAC company, wait through a four-hour window, and then get handed a price that had nothing to do with the number they’d been quoted over the phone. That gap between what people were promised and what they actually got became the reason this branch exists.

Halden Heating & Air has been part of the Relay Home Co. family since 2004, and the standard was set long before we opened here: written price before any work starts, live arrival tracking, photo updates of the work. When the opportunity came to bring that model to the South Bay, we knew Torrance was the right place. The housing stock here is older in pockets, newer in others, with everything from 1960s ranch homes near the university to coastal-adjacent construction in South Torrance. That mix demands a team that actually knows the local systems, not a rotating cast of technicians who’ve never worked a Torrance summer. So we built the local team around people who live and work in the area, and we brought the Relay Standard with us.

Andre Fuller’s Personal Connection to the HVAC Trade

Andre Fuller came into this trade the way a lot of people do: sideways, through someone else’s problem. He was in his early twenties, living in a rental where the air conditioner coughed out warm air all through a Los Angeles August. The landlord sent three different companies. All three looked at the unit, gave a different diagnosis, and charged a service fee for the privilege. None of them fixed it. Andre finally sat on the floor in front of that old unit with the manual spread open, reading diagrams he barely understood, feeling the way the compressor vibrated when it tried to start. He didn’t fix it that day. But he figured out enough to know the last company had quoted a full replacement for what turned out to be a bad capacitor, a fifteen-dollar part.

That moment stuck. Not the anger about the money. It was the realization that most people never get to know whether a technician is being straight with them. They stand in their hallway, looking at a stranger pointing at a furnace they’ve never opened, and they have to take it on faith. Andre got into the trade because he didn’t want to be another person asking for that kind of faith without earning it. He started as a helper, carrying tools and hauling equipment through attics that felt like ovens. He learned by watching tradesmen who’d been at it for decades, the ones who could hear a failing blower motor from across the room and tell you the refrigerant was low by the temperature of the liquid line. Over the years, he moved through installation and service, earned his state-required license, and kept noticing the same pattern: the trade wasn’t lacking skill. It was lacking transparency.

What keeps him in it now is simpler. It’s the house that finally stays cool during a heat wave. It’s the older homeowner who doesn’t have to strain to hear an explanation because someone took the time to sit down and talk through it. Andre’s a hands-on person. If he weren’t doing this, he’d probably be restoring something, a car or a piece of old equipment, taking it apart to see why it stopped working and putting it back together right. The HVAC trade gives him the same satisfaction, except at the end of the day, the thing he’s putting back together is someone’s comfort.

Meet Andre Fuller – The Person Behind Every Job

Andre Fuller is the Owner & Founder of Halden Heating and Air Torrance, the local branch serving the South Bay. He’s spent more than ten years in the HVAC trade, working through Southern California’s heat waves, marine-layer mornings, and the occasional cold snap that sends people scrambling to check their furnaces. He holds the state-required license for HVAC contracting and carries the insurance and bonding coverage every homeowner should expect from a company working inside their home.

What separates Andre from a corporate franchise technician isn’t a list of credentials. It’s the way he runs the local team. Every technician who works under the Halden name is required to hold the license and insurance their state requires, and every job is done to the Relay Standard: a written price before work begins, photos of the work before and after, and a live arrival time you can track to your door. Andre’s personal commitment is straightforward: if we wouldn’t accept the work at our own house, we don’t accept it at yours.

Our Promise to Torrance Homeowners

Every promise we make ties back to something real, not a slogan. When we say the price is in writing before we start, we mean you’ll see the dollar figure on paper before a tool comes off the truck. The Relay Visibility Guarantee stands behind that: total visibility on every job, from the live arrival time to the photo updates to the digital invoice you can pay from your phone.

We promise to use quality parts because cheap parts fail quietly and expensively. We promise to stand behind our work because the neighborhoods we serve, from the tree-lined streets of South Torrance to the busier stretches near the 405, are full of people who talk to their neighbors. A company that doesn’t stand by its work doesn’t last in a community this connected. And we promise to explain things in plain words, the way Andre has done since he first opened a unit and realized most homeowners just want to understand what they’re paying for.

Our Credentials

  • State-licensed: Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license their state requires for HVAC work.
  • Insured & bonded: Carrying coverage is a requirement for anyone working in your home, and it’s a requirement for our team.
  • Years of local experience: The team working Torrance knows the local systems, the local homes, and the way coastal air affects equipment.
  • Strong local reputation: We earn trust the way every local business in the South Bay does, one honest job at a time.

Why does this matter to you? Because when you let someone into your home, you’re trusting them with your safety, your property, and your family’s comfort. The license means they’ve met the state’s bar for doing the work. The insurance means you’re protected if something goes wrong. And the local reputation means your neighbors have already done the vetting for you.

Rooted in Torrance

Torrance isn’t a service territory to us. It’s where our team lives, shops, and spends weekends. We know the difference between a summer near the coast in Redondo Beach and one a few miles inland in North Torrance, where the same heat reads differently on a thermostat. We know the older furnace models still running in some Seaside homes and the newer heat pump installs going into the neighborhoods near Wilson Park. Halden Heating & Air is part of the Relay Home Co. family, but this branch is a local business first. We work to the Relay Visibility Guarantee because our neighbors deserve to know exactly who’s coming, when they’ll arrive, and what it’ll cost.
